Stamford Museum & Nature Center
Logo Design, Collateral
Located in Stamford, Conn., the Stamford Museum & Nature Center was preparing to launch its first major capital campaign in 50 years. The well-established and well-respected non-profit, one of the largest nature-based educational institutions in the state, was looking to raise funds for two capital projects to add to its 118-acre campus.
Campaign Theme & Catchy Tagline
The Museum was already an established brand with materials that have a certain look and feel. Catalyst was asked to come up with a tagline and a way to visually depict the capital campaign theme — The Campaign for Future Generations – with the existing Museum logo.
Working in the same color family, Catalyst created a version of the logo for use on all campaign materials. In addition, because we believed the campaign’s messaging should include a promise to the community, we came up with more than 75 possible taglines. The Museum’s final choice was reflective of the emotions associated with visiting the campus – Making Memories for Generations and those to come.
Making a Compelling Case for Support
By the time the Museum reached out to Catalyst, much of the groundwork for the campaign had already been established. Therefore, our role was to pull it all together – to string together the right words to build a compelling case statement and to design a package that would make a strong impression on prospective major donors. With dozens of competing non-profits vying for fundraising dollars, these materials needed to stand out and yet be representative of the values of the organization itself.
Our materials were designed to have a similar look and feel to the Museum’s already-established brand. The prospectus included photos – past, present and future – to showcase the organization’s brilliant past and bright future. Each spread took the reader on a brief yet eloquent journey of the Museum’s history and thoughtful planning process, ending on a personal note that asked every potential donor to help make a lasting impact on this community treasure.
Beyond the prospectus, we created several individual fact sheets to highlight the benefits of giving, the Museum’s annual operations and the campaign scope and projected community impact, along with a unique infographic to summarize its impressive service to the community. All of these items were packaged in a simple yet striking pocket folder that resembled recycled paper and looked very “natural.”
In the end, the Museum was thrilled with our work – both in writing and design. We were able to deliver a piece that was classy enough to use for potential major donors without blowing their budget on printing costs. Most importantly, we helped to tell their story and make the case for support in a compelling way.
